Hands off our women, Russian MP tells foreigners

Hands off our women, Russian MP tells foreigners

Scandalised by the fact that some of Russia's most beautiful women are opting to marry foreigners, the ultra-nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky is backing a bill that would make them think twice before exchanging vows with a non-Russian. His party, the incongruously named Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, has drafted a draconian marriage bill that will now be considered by the Duma, the Russian Parliament. It envisages severe penalties for Russian girls or women who choose "unpatriotically" to wed a foreigner, a trend the party believes is robbing the country's gene pool of its greatest resource. It is proposing punishing such female "traitors" by stripping them of their citizenship, deporting them to the country of their new husband and never allowing them to return. The party also wants them to feel the pain in their pockets and is suggesting that their Russian assets be automatically distributed among their relatives or given to the state. Calling Russia's female population a "national treasure", he said the bill was being introduced "in order not to squander our gene pool".

They've got used to freedom, so why do Russians still hunger for the USSR?

In a poll conducted in 2003, the Russian Centre for Public Opinion found that 53 per cent of Russians still regard Stalin as a "great" leader. Since 1989, the Russian mortality rate has risen from below 11 per 1,000 to more than 15 per 1,000 - nearly double the American rate. For adult males, the mortality rate is three times higher. Average male life expectancy at birth is below 60, roughly the same as in Bangladesh. A 20-year-old Russian man has a less than 50/50 chance of reaching the age of 65. This has much to do with the round-the-clock consumption of fags and booze - the typical St Petersburg man walks around with a bottle of beer and a cigarette in one hand the way a Londoner carries his mobile phone - not to mention an attitude to road safety apparently inspired by the Mad Max films. Exacerbating the demographic effects of increased mortality has been a steep decline in the fertility rate, from 2.19 births per woman in the mid-1980s to a nadir of 1.17 in 1999. Because of these trends, the United Nations projects that Russia's population will decline from 146 million in 2000 to 101 million in 2050. By that time the population of Egypt will be larger.

The underlying assumption here is of course that Russian women, as if they were serfs, belong to the state. How Islamic.

And, how communist!

And, how SANE. This should be applauded, not condemned. I would hate for Russia to go the way of Sweden.

Sorry folks, either we want conservative, nation preserving ideals or we don't. Liberalism is an untenable ideal that has led to the current plight of European man. To me, it is time for a change and it weakens the argument when we pick and choose which Liberal ideology we want to hold on to and which we want to discard. Now I know it is a drastic measure, however as the old saying goes..."drastic times call for drastic measures".

Ask the Russian women why they don't want to marry the mainly alcoholic and violent Russian men.

Perhaps legislation should have been passed to reform male attitudes.

Russian women love their country but they aren't keen on having the children, working, looking after a drunken unemployed husband, and taking the odd beating.

You are stereotyping. Where I live, there has been a huge influx of Russian immigration. These women, though nearly all beautiful, are not demure or lacking in self esteem and would never settle for any "beating".

Why do native Russian women want to marry foreigners? As an escape from the abject poverty that has engulfed the country with only Moscow and St Petersburg as the only two Russian cities that have enough money flowing through them to allow the commoners to latch onto some of it.

This is the information I gathered in speaking to more than a handful of them.

Now, as I said before, the legislation is drastic, however it has to be a blanket, across the board legislation for it to have any chance. It would be a catastrophe and widely condemned if it only restricted marriage to Arabs or Muslims or what have you.

Ethnocentrist: If a woman is married and has children, where does she go if her husband decides to beat her, not contribute to the family coffers, is a drunkard?

Women carry the culture. Would it not make more sense for them to get a decent husband somewhere else and bring him back to Russia? That way perhaps the hopeless Russian male would be bred out of Russian society.

Hey Jude, don't let me down. LOL Sorry, couldn't help myself. It's a Beatles reference in case you didn't get it.

Seriously, I do not doubt what you say has truth to it and there is a percentage of the Russian population that fits your description, however I do not think it is a large proportion nor is it tremendously different from a lot of other cultures and I am not justifying it.

What should women do? Divorce their spouses. It happens in Russia just like everywhere else. While "culture" may be carried by the woman, and I have no serious disagreement with this, genetics are a different matter all together. As an absurd and extreme example, if ALL Russian women marry South Asian Indian males, and this "tradition" continues for 2 or 3 generations, then we no longer have Russians. I know this is not completely accurate but please allow me some latitude. Also, you are assuming that the Russian culture will survive through the woman and the Indian male will have no input in the culture of his offspring which would not be the case.

I cannot and will not agree to this. I have a specific weakness towards Russian women and Baltic/Scandinavian women in general. I think it is a travesty if outmarriage is allowed to continue and pick up steam. I do not want them to suffer, though I honestly do not think most of them suffer at the hands of their husbands.

ethnocentrist: you say "either we want conservative, nation preserving ideals or we don't." When the state makes laws restricting and/or penalizing citizens based on who they marry, it is not following conservative ideals. In fact, it is fascist (something Vladimir Zhirinovsky knows a lot about) and it is not unlike something from an Islamic state.

Besides, I don't think enough Russian women could possibly inter-marry to even create a dent in the gene pool.

Divorce is easy enough I suppose, but hardly worth marrying for. Do Russian women marry Asian men? I never said anything about that. The ones in NZ don't. If marrying out isn't happening on a large scale, why did that guy want to legislate against it?
I still think the men are the ones who have to buck up their ideas. You just can't force a woman to marry an alcoholic potato nose because he represents half (the worse half) of the Russian culture. If they want the culture to survive, then it is up to the men to make it worthwhile to the women to invest their genes in it.

Well guys, then where do we start in trying to save our culture, race, ethnostates, and continents?

I agree (for the third time) that it seems drastic, however we do not have the luxury to be so "liberal" any longer.

Don, I agree, it is fascist and you bring up a pretty good point. Due to the extreme liberalism we have endured for so long, it may spawn another fascist regime similar to the previous one we are constantly beaten over the head with and that my friends would be THE WORST thing for European derived peoples and their global rights. It would be the last nail in our collective coffins. So, while I like the stand being made by Russia, I am not oblivious to the precarious position we find ourselves in.

We don't need this. It will destroy everything that is good about the West.
